VANCOUVER, BC (February 7th 2013) – Scores of retirees are valley-bound to start the next chapter of their lives, living the kind of lifestyle they had dreamed of throughout their working life. Englewood Courtyard is the latest development to break ground in Chilliwack, thanks to 60+ couples who are downsizing from areas such as North Vancouver and Richmond. Many are selling their existing homes and reinvesting in a lower cost retirement property, while using leftover cash to buy in the US, get an RV or do some travelling.

New retirees are facing challenges, since the crash of 2008 hit investments hard. That has translated into real estate becoming a large part of retirement planning. High demand for these retiree-friendly homes, means Englewood Courtyard executive director Mark Perry has to work hard to keep up.

“We’ve definitely seen a shift in the way retirees are planning ahead,” says Perry. “We’re enabling them to make a smart investment choice, while also providing homes that are safe, welcoming and give them independence. Plus there’s the added bonus of the location and environment around them.”

Englewood Courtyard certainly has all that – with the Vedder River close by offering a picture-postcard setting, residents can go on hikes and local fishing expeditions. As well, a clubhouse is under construction and a park is just metres away. Add to that Chilliwack’s nearby bustling business district with big names stores and smaller family-run shops, mean you never have to travel far for all your essential services.

“We wanted to create an adult lifestyle community out here, not just a development,” says Perry. “The first phase, which consisted of rancher homes, exceeded expectations and demand, so we got to work planning resort style condos to increase the capacity of the Lower Mainland’s newest retirement neighbourhood.”

Sales of Englewood Courtyard homes start on February 14th, with the clubhouse due for completion in July. There will be three buildings in the project; the first will be completed in May 2014.
