There’s big news is on the horizon for us! Englewood Courtyard Executive Director Mark Perry and Triple A Senior Housing Co-Chair Petrina Arnason recently appeared on Radio Real Estate (650 AM in Vancouver) to talk about the importance of senior housing and the challenges facing many retirees in BC.
Petrina is a co-chair on the Triple A Senior Housing Group (which strives for accountability, accessibility, and affordability for seniors), and she drew attention to some of the major problems seniors and active retirees in the province have to go through.
- There is a growing proportion of seniors in the province but they don’t have the policies in place to support them
- There are over 12,000 seniors in the province that spent over 50% of their income on housing
- Over 94% of these seniors are single women; possibly widowed or divorced.
- As a result, there is a greater increase of senior homelessness across the province
- Many seniors are looking to downsize by selling their homes and moving into a place with more accessibility and is more affordable
That’s where we come in. Our very own Mark Perry goes on the air to explain how Englewood Courtyard helps alleviate this problem. By providing accessible and affordable housing designed for active retirees, many seniors have found the cost-effective housing option they are looking for through Englewood Courtyard.
There is also a $25,000 construction discount right now for anyone currently on the fence about becoming a homeowner. All these factors have contributed to very strong housing sales so far.
