VANCOUVER, BC (June 3rd, 2013) – A brand new condo development in Chilliwack will provide BC retirees with a long list of significant features to simply make their lives easier as they enjoy their post-work years. Englewood Courtyard, located on Keith Wilson Road in Chilliwack, has been developed to the SAFERhome standard, enabling retirees the kind of lifestyle they truly want when they retire.
Every home in the condo building will feature (amongst many other things) wider doorways, higher electrical outlets and lower light switches as standard; seemingly small concessions, but significant to the independence of couples or single occupants as they age.
“We’ve seen a significant growth in the number of people actively planning their retirement living in a realistic way,” says Mark Perry, Englewood Courtyard Executive Director. “People realise they do need to make smart decisions about where they will live in their 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and beyond and we are providing homes that are safe, welcoming and enable independence. Getting the SAFERhome designation has been a really important part of this process and we’re proud to have received it.”
Established in 2004, the SAFERhome Society is a non-profit, public interest organisation encouraging a safer home environment and better standard of living for all, through its certified building standards.
According to Stats Canada, this year, the number of people aged 55 to 64 in Canada will start to exceed the number of people aged 15 to 24 for the first time.
As well as providing owners with the SAFERhome seal of approval, Englewood Courtyard has easy access to local stores and a wealth of beauty – with the Vedder River close by offering a picture-postcard setting, residents can go on hikes and local fishing expeditions. As well, a clubhouse is nearly completed and a park is just metres away.
“We wanted to create an adult lifestyle community, not just a development,” says Perry. “The first phase, which consisted of rancher homes, exceeded expectations and demand, so we got to work planning resort style condos to increase the choices within the Lower Mainland’s newest retirement neighbourhood.”
There will be three buildings in the project; the first, the “Platinum 1” is currently for sale with pre-construction prices of $174,900 – $310,900.
